Fabulous at 50: Keeping on top of weight gain

I have been lucky over my lifetime and haven’t dealt with weight gain. Don’t be jealous. I have my own set of physical issues like acne and we all have something so don’t think anyone is left out when it comes to dealing with an imperfect body. There just isn’t anyone out there who is perfect, no matter what the media would like us to believe.

Well, back to weight gain, I can’t say that I haven’t gained weight. I just didn’t start gaining weight until I was 35. That year I gained 12 pounds. It was good for me because I have always been skinny.

But this last year something odd, for me, began to happen. I am gaining weight on a regular basis. I feel like the rest of the people now who have to watch their diet. I knew it would happen sooner or later because it seems to do with metabolism, genetics, and exercise, or lack thereof.

Over the last 2 years a couple of things have happened to me. I started blogging full-time so I never leave the house, except for weekends, and I will be 50 this year. So those two things combined are now doing wonderful things to my body.

Earlier this year I lost the use of my right arm and my shoulder got stuck – frozen shoulder they call it. I am gradually working on repairing that. I am wearing reading glasses more and more. My legs are turning into jello because I don’t go anywhere so that means no exercise, and now this weight gain. I used to be able to eat a bag of gummy bears every night with no weight gain at all.

Okay, so these things happen to us but what to do. I am now slacking off of the sweets at night, which is when I usually eat them, and eating more things like Rice cakes. And, I got this nifty set of scales. It shows me down to the ounce what my weight is. The scales I had were like from the 1950s and they were never accurate.

With these new digital scales I can see how much I weigh accurately at any given moment. It amazes me to see how much my weight fluxtuates and I am sure it is for most people. I can gain as much as 3 pounds in one day and have it gone the next. I guess the key is to keep on top of it and never let it get out of hand.

It is from Eat Smart and it only cost $28.95 with free shipping from Amazon.com. I found it and then made sure it had lots of reviews and every seemed to be happy with it so I got it. It is definitely a good product for the price.

The light is super bright, the battery never needs to be charged, and it turns itself off once you get off of it. I am really glad I got it.
