Shecky’s Girls’ Night Out Boston Event – the Recap
Greg and I landed at the Shecky’s Girls Night Out party in Boston around 5:30. Parking is always a problem in this area of Boston but then again when isn’t parking a problem in a city. Shecky’s is held in the Boston Center for the Arts and there is a parking garage just underneath. The cost is $18 so be ready to cough up some dough for parking.

Once we arrived at the door the place was mobbed. We decided to go to Shecky’s on Friday night, which as sold out by the way, because we thought it would have the best vibe and action. We were right. There were lines out the door and every lady who attended came in a group – from 2 to 10 people it seemed. I had an extra pass and could never find a single person to give it to. Everyone had purchased their tickets ahead of time and the few that didn’t couldn’t get in. Just as a word to the wise, if you go to an event like Shecky’s you might want to go on Wednesday or Thursday when the crowds are lower and there will be no long lines out the door and buy your tickets ahead of time on their website to save some money.
Although there was a long line at the door it moved very fast. The ladies running the registration table kept everything moving and the event was well organized. One thing I thought was especially helpful was a coat check. It cost $2.00 to check your coat but was worth it so you didn’t overheat or have to carry your heavy coat around all night. It IS still March and in Boston this means it’s cold outside so most ladies had heavy coats with them.
The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that I couldn’t find a chair to sit on all night. But, I do understand that this is a party and most people walk around all night or stand in groups chatting and laughing so chairs aren’t needed for the most part.
A Shecky’s Girls Night event is lively for sure and you definitely feel like you are at a party with the thumbing music and screaming woman all over the place. The only thing missing was a lot of men and a dance floor with a disco ball overhead. But, I have to say, the few men who were there enjoyed it, and the view, thoroughly.
Drinks flowed freely all night from all kind Budweiser beers to colorful X-Rate Fusion drinks. The drinks were part of your ticket price and you could drink as much as you had vouchers for. Each wristband had 3 vouchers on them.
Another interesting feature Shecky’s brought out this year was a beer pairing class. A section of the room was roped off and you had to sign up to attend one of the sessions. There were tables setup with cheese and cracker samples along with 4 small glasses are various Budweiser beers. During the session we learned what kinds of beers go with certain types of foods whether bland, sweet or salty. It was quite interesting and we all left with a free beer glass.
If you didn’t get to taste the fabulous creamy and rich cupcakes you just missed out. I indulged in a couple of them. These were complimentary as well.
As the evening wore on the atmosphere became even more party-like as women started “feeling the buzz” a bit and laughing and enjoying the company of their friends.
Surprisingly there is no real focal point at a Shecky’s Girls Night Out like a runway in the middle of the room with fashion show going on or a lecture on the hottest makeup tips but it doesn’t matter because the women who attend just need a night out with the girls.
This, however, doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to do and see. There are jewelry, handbags, and clothing vendors galore. There were a few other types of vendors selling various things like beauty books, adult toys, and specialty bras but these vendors didn’t do so well. This is the kind of event where a woman wants to have fun and buy a little bling or a new purse. She doesn’t want to think a lot about anything because that is what she does all week at home with the kids or at work so vendors thinking about exhibiting at Shecky’s should understand what kind of customer attends and make sure they stock the products women want to buy when they are in a partying mood.
Beyond the shopping you could take a photo of you and your girlfriends at the special booth Shecky’s had made up with a Shecky’s branded backdrop. It made you feel like you were on the red carpet.
Another booth that stood out what Claudia’s Closet. President and Co-Founder of Sheckys, Claudia Chan, hand-picks items from vendors in the room that she thinks are fabulous and hot, and then features them in her Claudia’s Closet display.
Another large booth was sponsored by Maybelline. I met makeup artist, Gabriel Almodovar, who told me that the hottest makeup trend for Spring was a bold lip color. Lipstick is coming back in a big way and the hottest colors for Spring are Coral and Pinks.
Gabriel spent his night making over young ladies who stood in line to get their turn at being oh so fabulous.
These two ladies looked wonderful after their makeovers. Even though each has a different skin and hair color the makeup artists at Shecky’s were able to give them a unique look that matched their skin tone.
Gab has some great makeup tips in this video he had on his website. I guess I never really thought makeup could expire and this short video will give you some great information.
When you leave Skecky’s you get a FABULOUS, and I mean fabulous, swag bag. They call it a goodie bag but we are all about the swag here at Sweeties so swag it is. The bag I received was overflowing with great things like shampoo, a fake nail kit, an OB tampon kit, Lady Speed Stick deodorant, Jergens Shea butter, lip balm, hair bands, and so much more.
