How to Make Ugly People Look Beautiful…
….or why we only want to look at perfect people. But, WHO decides who is perfect and who is not?
I don’t know about you but I have struggled with body image and not only that but wanting to look good so I will be accepted. The Dove site says that only 2% of women think they are beautiful. 2 % – amazing. That’s because we have decided to let other people tell us that we don’t fit somehow into their idea of what beautiful really is. Like we have to apologize for the way we came out of our mother’s womb, like we had a choice!
However, as I age I find I have even less choice over what I look like and this whole image of what is beauty is just a myth. Will someone like me if I look perfect? Well, it seems men will love me but women will hate me. Wait! That’s not what I was going for. I want everyone to love me. So, it is just a myth that looks are what it takes for people to accept and love you.
My title made you look but now you need to watch this video and see why we constantly struggle with trying to be perfect. Probably because it has been dictated to us that we have to be or no one will love us. Amazing!
Incredible huh! I saw this on Facebook and couldn’t pass up the chance to give you my thoughts on the subject. This video, from Dove’s Campaign on Real Beauty (in the US and in Canada), shows why we so many women have body image problems. Society, Hollywood, and the Fashion industry has decided that we have to be perfect and now, if we are not there is a little something called Photoshop that can make us perfect.
This video shows you just how they do it in Photoshop.
Once again Incredible! I know how to use Photoshop and understand exactly what he is teaching but just the thought of him saying that – hey, take some fat, ugly person on the Internet and use them to play around with in Photoshop and make them beautiful just kind of makes me want to slap him. We’re back to the – you have to be perfect to be accepted.
What do you think?

I think it is just as unhealthy to assume it is okay to misuse the word beauty. If we set a bar for beauty being in connection with health. Then when people are living healthy lives they will also be considered beautiful. If the bar of beauty is set at perfection it is too high. If the bar of beauty is set at common, it is too low.
